Collapsus is a cool website. It combined different media creation together in one website. What I see is, um, it has animation, video production, gaming, and …well many different kinds of media together. When we entered this website we will see a video first, and then it goes to animation. At the same time if we slash to the right there is some words and article. And also a short video. If we slash to the left there will be a world map, marked several people in it. This is a typical of trans-media. I think it was totally cool. I really like the first part, when I entered this website. And what everywhere we go, the video is always here. Anyway so this is not that cool. But really, I think trans-media works well in this website. They organized them well. The timing is great, like when we going to another topic of the video, you click to the right it also changed to another topic. By the video continuous, the world map also added things in it. We can see some place is colored differently.
I think trans-media is kind of trying attracting different people in different level or different ages. This is the benefit of trans-media. Take the collapsus as an example; young people will think it was totally cool, even this topic is about electricity. To some adults, watching the video and reading articles is better fit them. They have it to. This is the only benefit come out form my head now. To the opposite, I think trans-media will easily make people confused. Still, take that website as example, when we click all around, there are too much information. Too much media combined. If it is not well organized it will easily get people confused.
In this quarter, we learn many different things. Even we are in different major, I think Eric want us to know about how other media works. Therefore, in the future, when we work with different people to make a trans-media, we will know how to talk with them and well organized our work. So we won’t confuse our audience. Actually I really like the way that course teach. Even I don’t want to do different assignment, but it really helps. I am in a digital media major, for me I believe in the future I will do gaming or animating. The thing is the world is changing too much. Learn how different things work in different media, that way we won’t kick out from our area. Last time when I watching a movie. I didn’t just finish the movie when the story stops; I see the last minutes, which has different names come out. I just notice, they actually have many animators work in filming, even though it is not an animation.
I guess this is how our future media works. Games, video, animation, all different media, can combined and make a new media style.

response to Freak Factor.
The freak factor just like other readings we had before, teaching us how to be creative. But this topic is really interesting and thoughtful. I have never thought about this before. I mean, some of his ideas really helped me solved my confusion about some questions.
In summary, “The Freak Factor” by David Rendall suggest us being a freak. And he listed some facts and reasons to support his idea.
The first one is “what’s your problem?” David talked about the regular thoughts about personal problems. And explained how normal people deal with it.
In the second topic “what is my problem?” The author takes himself as an example explained that people who have problems could achieve success. And weaknesses may make a person special and make whom they are.
In the third topic, he explained his belief; “there’s nothing wrong with you”. Strength is connected to a weakness. He gives some real example to “disorganization” “dyslexia” “addiction” to support his point that weaknesses can also be strengths.
The fourth topic is “forget it: don’t try to fix your weaknesses”. In this topic, David gives four reasons about why don’t try to fix weaknesses. The main reason is “we all have limitation”.
The fifth one is “build on your strengths”. As what the topic says, it is about reason why you need to build your strengths.
The six topic is the focus “you can’t do both.” We cannot fix our weaknesses and build our strengths together. Wal-mart, Target, and Kmart are examples.
“Find the right spot” is the seventh one. It talks about if we want find success, we have to find our right direction first, a right position takes your strengths and makes it a great benefits.
In the next topic David talked about “the power of uniqueness”. The weakness makes you uniqueness, and your uniqueness makes you special. Be a freak.
The last one is about “putting your quirks to work”. how to use your special uniqueness in doing things. Make them a positive effect to your life.
For me I really like this reading personally. I will say David’s suggestion is all valid to me. There are top three in my mind.
The first one is the “there’s nothing wrong with you”. I believe every characterizes in a person makes who they are. And make them as an individuals to the world. Nobody is perfect. I really like the examples he give in the article. I have read a sentence before: While god close a door, he opens another one. I don’t know if it is well translated, I read this sentence in Chinese though. A perfect person does not existing. The weakness can also be strengths. However, I guess only some people can make their weakness to their strengths. That’s why, there are so many people in the world but not so many successful people.
The second one is “Don’t try to fix your weaknesses”. David listed some reason to explain his idea. I cannot agree more with him. I have tried to fix my weakness before, when I first noticed that I am not good enough. But the thing is, my trying is never success. Therefore I figured out people is not easy to changing. After reading this article, I know people are not able to changing.
The last one I like the most is “The power of uniqueness”. The weakness can be strengths. This is what I learn from this topic. Being special is never easy. People feel uncomfortable when they feel they are not like other people. me too. I usually trying to think like others, and do thing like others. But I lost something more important to me. It is my creative thinking. stay in special is not easy. The uniqueness makes you special. This difference makes you shining. People will start to notice there is a person like you in the community. That way, being success is a lot easier.
I think my main weakness is careless. I never considered too much before doing things. Therefore some important points will miss. But because I am careless, I am braver to do things. Maybe it is because I never think before doing one thing, I am good at figured out things out when I do it. and at that moment, I can come up with some funny or special idea. They are always come out suddenly while working. Therefore, usually my works came out with a totally different with what I said in the beginning.

In matt's drawing, the superhero is in a soft color, He used split-complementary way to color the superhero. He used three different hues, the yellow, red, and blue. In Ryan's villain drawing, he used similar hues and the entire picture is dark, and the saturation is pure.
Ryan did a great job lighting the villain. He added many shadow in his picture even though the villain has a light in his hand, his face is bright somewhere to create more shadow. Especially the background is dark and we cannot see anything but the shadow of buildings. This city seems under a fear and hopeless feeling because of the villain. I really like this picture. The superhero picture has fewer moods in it. Because it has less shadow and the color are too similar. But i can see it had a brighter feeling than the villain's picture. There is one thing I noticed in both pictures that they are both in front of the city. But the superhero is in the bright side which we can clearly see what the buildings look like, and they are colored. To the opposite, the villain is in front of the dark city. He is the black side of the city. The villain is far away from the city, because he is not welcomed. The fire in the villain’s hand is a symbolism of his dark cool heart, the fire is not bright.
Jordan and Lena's Hero/Villain
In Jordan and Lena’s animation, the superhero colored in two pictures show his two different situations. When he is in sleep, he is in cold blue color. But when he weak up, and ready to fight with the villain he changed to yellow which is brighter and seem more powerful and strong. I really like Jordan’s animation. it is colored. From this animation I can see this is more like a cartoon. It’s saturated. And the villain that Lena draw is in a dark color. She did not use too much different color. Just basically all dark color to show it is a bad guy. As we can see the villain is a joker. His head shaped a triangle. I think she could shape the villain in a different shape. And the color Lena used is cool. But I think she could add some background in it, to show more detail what kind of power he had.
Their animation is show in a didactic way. Usually a superhero animation is didactic, they directly tell the story and what is the main point. Jordan’s animation is also like that. We can see the villain is trying to do something bad, when the person is in deep sleep and have a good dream. And their superhero shows his super power and fights back the villain. The motivation is also easy to see, the superhero is trying to protect people’s dream, so he is like a night-light. When the villain shows up, he turns on.
Mike and Andraw's Hero/Villain
Mike and Andrew’s Hero/Villain is so funny. I really like it. the setting is based on the real life, I thought if it will become a animation it will become really popular in OU. Especially for media students. Anyway. Pictures are cool too. I really like the way they colored the character. Basically, because this animation is kind of comedy, they have the highest saturation. Like a common cartoon on TV. And the pictures are easy to see who is the villain and who is the superhero. Professor Williams is colored in bright with closed hues. It is pretty clearly to see he is the superhero. But I don’t really get what kind of superpower he got. The roger, the villain, is in black color. His face is hard to see, because he has a big shadow in his face. The background is in cold and dark blue, with two yellow flashing. in the left bottom corner, “OU” is in there. So we can know where does the story take place.
Form the color I can see tension and release. The superhero is release, because it is warm, and bright. The smile in his face makes audience feel safe and happy. To the opposite the roger must be the tension. His face is not clear, that make a sense of unsafe. We cannot trust people who we cannot understand or see clearly. When audiences see roger they should feel nervous. He is dark with creepy smile in his face. How could people like that will be a good person.

second joke video
Compare and Contrast Essay
In our two short videos, there are both contrast and affinity. Our video is basically following the same joke. The story line is the same, but by editing and directing in different way, they have differences.
The line is different in two videos. We have more lines in the first video. For example the purple background of the “dad”, all the lines are towards the dad to make “dad” more stand out. And also the very beginning of the first video when “dad ”sit on the sofa, all the lines are point to him. In addition, we also have followed the rule of thirds, which we talked in class a few weeks before. “Dad” is the point of interests, so he is a little bit left wards in the screen. In the second video, we also add lines but it is simpler than the first video. Take “mom” as an example too, when she worked in the kitchen, the only visual line we can current see is the lines of the board. These two differences happened because the different sources we had during filming.
In the first video, we give the “Dad” a hat in order to create a shape, which is different from the kid. This is in purpose to show the conflict between different shapes. In the second video we also did this. The “Mother” is in a circle, and the Kid is a triangle.
The rhythm in these two videos is also different. In the first video, the rhythm is smooth. By starting with a peace and soft music, the rhythm is slow and smooth. But in the second video, the rhythm is fast. Because the piano music our editor added in the video is in a fast and happy speed. Even the second one is a silence movie. We can still get the joke, because it’s fast and happy rhythm.
Our second video has subtext to explain the story. The first one we just directly add voice in it to help audience understanding the video.

Those elephants charring the golden sits and tower. It looks like a powerful person going out. The gold is shining and light. In there, the artist compares and contrasts the gold with those elephants. When we look at the elephants, they have very very thin legs, and their body is in dark black color that makes us cannot see them very clearly. Their thin legs and small body (the dark color makes them look small.) cannot carry the heavy gold, it’s about to fall. The artist using many subtext here.
In the original picture, the first thing we will notice is the terrified horse, because of the Rules of Thirds. Then we will notice the gold, then elephants and at last we will see elephants’ thin legs. The horse is kind of telling the theme of the picture, which are anger, conflict, and scare. The angry, conflict and scare is from the gold. We want know why, then we see the elephants, dark and old, and the most important is they have very thin legs. After I reformed the picture, it changed. According to the rules of third, now we are focus on the man. We first see the cross in his hand. And then some falling legs in the right. The man seems want defended himself, so he won’t hurt by those large body.
The conflict also shows in the shape. The golden products are all in a triangle shape. Compare to the naked man who is holding a cross, is in a rectangle. The conflict is clearer. Look at the lines in this picture, most of them are diagonal. But there are lines goes to a totally different direction. This frame shows a contrast direction of the lines. In my reformed picture, lines are diagonal too, they are toward the top left corner. And the man is below the horizon line which means he is very close to us.
The original picture is XWS (extremely wide shot), it has people in the location. The picture I reformed is WS. It contain the man’s who body. And it could also kind of two shot, even those legs are not human beings, this shot contain 2 elements.
In my picture, the elephant is higher than the man, but it is still small and far away from us. The man in our eyes is bigger. I think his defense or fight will success.

4A blog assignment
Link to the article "Brainwashed"
In Seth Godin’s writing, “Brainwashed”, the Acknowledge the Lizard telling us the main reason why we are afraid to make arts. The main reason is we don’t want to be laughed at. Therefore we don’t want to dislike others. Being difference makes us fear. We must ignore this feeling, stop care too much about other’s laughing.
The last layer is Learn. In short, learning is never stopping. We learn everyday from different people and experiences. Learning something everyday, and challenging us.
Today my friend and I were talking about the blog assignment, which we both don’t finish yet. When we mentioned the audio assignment, she said she don’t want to do it in library, because it makes her feel uncomfortable. I am totally agreed with her. I think it’s because we are afraid of being laughed at by others, even most times they don’t really care. Every time we finished the lab project, we have to post it online, I thought it’s also an acknowledging the lizard, because our workings is going to be evaluating by our classmates and even strangers. I actually think it’s a pretty good way to challenge myself. I was thinking if we post our working on Youtube, and let more people evaluating the works may challenging us a lot more.
Doing every blog assignment is not only homework but is always a process of learning. We are not only learning and understanding words, which taught in class, but also learning other things beside our course. For example, when I am working on the first blog, even I am very familiar with the animator, Hayao Miyazaki, but I actually never considered how does his animation affect me and educated me. His animations have many different aspects for me to learn. Therefore writing a blog assignment is also a good way to learning things beside class. For suggestion, maybe we can write anything we want in the blog every week. It can be a song we sing, music we play, or even a short animation we made. That might be helpful to be more creative.

3A blog assignment
3A blog assignment
“Seasons in the Sun” covered by Terry Jacks in 1974
Covered by westlife in 1999
“Seasons in the Sun” have been covered by many singers. The most famous two will be Terry Jacks and Westlife. The oldest version of “seasons in the sun” is a French-language song. By translating the song to English version, Terry Jacks makes the song more popular and famous in 1974. And then in 1999, Westlife’s “Seasons in the Sun” become the Christmas Number one in that year. (Wikipedia)
There are both similarities and differences between Terry and Westlife’s “Seasons in the Sun”. We can find similarities in Rhythm and Intensity. The differences are shown in speed and arrangement (organization and instrument).
The Rhythm and Intensity are similar in Terry and Westlife’s “Seasons in the Sun”. Based on the same lyrics, both songs have the same rhythm. The lyric is very rhythmic. For example, in the sentence “Goodbye, Michelle, my little one, /you gave me love and helped me find the sun, / And every time that I was down/ You would always come around”, it can be very easy to find a rhythm with the last words of each sentence sounds the same. The rhythmic words are all around the song. Therefore, even we just read though the lyric, the rhythm is coming pretty straight to readers. In both song, they used the same lyric, and has the same rhythm. The intensity in both “Seasons in the Sun” is similar too. In “Seasons in the Sun”, the speaker, a dying man, call to mind the past. He was just missing his childhood, friends, family and lover. He was also mentioned that life is wonderful, but he is going to die. In both songs, the singer shows the feeling of regret, and reluctant to leaving. Because of the mood, the intensity of both songs is soft. When we listen to these songs, it’s like a person talking with us, and saying goodbye to the world and his life. The intensity in Terry’s “seasons in the sun” and westlife’s are both similar soft.
There are many similarities in these two songs. However, they are still different in speed and arrangement. The speed of Terry’s “Seasons in the sun” is faster than westlife’s song. In Terry’s song the beats in the back showed a fast tempo. And in westlife’s song, a slow piano makes a slow tempo. The biggest difference in these two songs is the arrangement, which in detail the instrument and organization of each song. The main instrument in Westlife’s “seasons in the sun” is the piano, it leading the flow of the music. Organization of westlife’s “seasons in the sun”, starts with a short introductory music, and then it’s the piano go with singer, during the climax they also adding some other instruments and beats in the music. But piano is almost all over the music. In Terry’s music, I will say the main instrument will be the guitar and beats. Compare to westlife’s cantilena, Terry’s music is more rock style. It starts a guitar solo, and by the music going though, they added beats and verse. The organization, instruments, and speed are distinct in two musics.
The lyrics of the English version “Seasons in the Sun” contains Active and didactic in the words. Each section of the lyric starts with the goodbye and each section is to different person. Like papa, Michelle, Friends. We could know that he is leaving, so he has to say goodbye to everyone. In deep, I think the man doesn’t want to leave but he has to. He is dying when he saying those words. Since he figured out he had to die, the world is seems too beautiful, and too much things makes him miss so much. There can be a deep consider to this lyric. Tension and Release can used to describe both Westlife and Terry’s singing. Westlife’s “seasons in the sun” can be considered as release, and Jerry’s song can be tension. By listening Terry’s singing, I can feel sad and nervous about dead. But in westlife’s singing, I think the feeling about death is not as strong as Terry’s. Westlife’s is more like the man is now understand the death cannot be changed, and now he just want remind his past, and enjoy the rest of the life.
Personally, I like Terry Jack’s “Seasons in the Sun” better. Because his singing really helps me imaging the dead man who is sad about leaving. Even it’s in a faster speed, the emotion is more upset in Terry’s song. And he is trying so hard to accept the fact that he have to facing the death.
