First joke video

second joke video

Compare and Contrast Essay

In our two short videos, there are both contrast and affinity. Our video is basically following the same joke. The story line is the same, but by editing and directing in different way, they have differences.

The line is different in two videos. We have more lines in the first video. For example the purple background of the “dad”, all the lines are towards the dad to make “dad” more stand out. And also the very beginning of the first video when “dad ”sit on the sofa, all the lines are point to him. In addition, we also have followed the rule of thirds, which we talked in class a few weeks before. “Dad” is the point of interests, so he is a little bit left wards in the screen. In the second video, we also add lines but it is simpler than the first video. Take “mom” as an example too, when she worked in the kitchen, the only visual line we can current see is the lines of the board. These two differences happened because the different sources we had during filming.

In the first video, we give the “Dad” a hat in order to create a shape, which is different from the kid. This is in purpose to show the conflict between different shapes. In the second video we also did this. The “Mother” is in a circle, and the Kid is a triangle.

The rhythm in these two videos is also different. In the first video, the rhythm is smooth. By starting with a peace and soft music, the rhythm is slow and smooth. But in the second video, the rhythm is fast. Because the piano music our editor added in the video is in a fast and happy speed. Even the second one is a silence movie. We can still get the joke, because it’s fast and happy rhythm.

Our second video has subtext to explain the story. The first one we just directly add voice in it to help audience understanding the video.
